Enclosure 1.

RECOGNITION OF DEATH: Kowloon-Canton Railway, 31st August, 1907.

Chief Resident Engineer,

In reply to your enquiry, the cause of Mr. A. C. Hamilton's death was Malignant Malaria.

Some two years ago, before joining the Railway service, Mr. Hamilton was seriously ill for many months with Abscess of the Liver and of the right Lung; and in May last he had necrosis of one of the ribs in the same region, and this was removed by operation, from which he made a complete recovery.

The results of the severe illness two years ago probably added to the severity of the attack of Malaria which carried him off; though this itself was a severe infection, nearly every blood-cell being infected with the parasite of Malaria.
